Pictures of this type, simple silhouettes, are quite easy to do, and are often successful provided the subject has interest. Often, the camera will produce a silhouette automatically as it`s metering system exposes for the bright background. That depends, of course, on the proportion of the frame taken up by the subject. Unfortunately, in this case, some modern exposure systems are so good that they try and correct for possible silhouettes assuming `correct` subject exposure is required. In such a case, a reading is required from the highlight and the camera should be set manually, or the over ride knob used.
